Wednesday 27th - Naples to Stromboli

Leaving Naples
Up early for a light backpacker breakfast and got us and our bags down to the ferry terminal in good time to make sure we could cope with any further changes in the schedule. Ferry still due to leave at noon so had a two hour hang-around. Finally let on board at 11 but had to sit around another hour until they handed out the keys to the cabins. There were probably about 20 people in total for probably a number of hundred cabins on the ferry. Why we had to wait an hour I don’t know. Got our key to our “keyhole”. Two bunkbeds and a basin and very cosy. Some of the graves we had seen earlier probably had more room. This ferry is huge, but there are only about 8 cars tucked away in a back corner on the massive car deck which even has a two-tier system for stacking cars.

Up into one of the lounges where we parked ourselves for the next 8 hours! Totally calm seas so not sure what happened to yesterday’s “bad weather”, if indeed there ever had been any. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. One nice thing about ferries is that you have no choice but to kick back and do nothing. We hadn’t realised quite how big the distances are – J had imagined we would be in sight of land for much more time, but it was just open sea.
