| St Antun's steps |
Slow start again today. John has had a rotten head cold for the last two days and has been spluttering away. A little better today. We decided to go for a walk up to St Antun’s church, located on a hill overlooking the old town. It was a nice meander around the water’s edge, topped off with 101 steps up to the church itself. We didn’t get the view back to the town that we expected (trees in the way) but enjoyed our picnic lunch on a seat in the shade. The temps have been around 14- 17 maybe, quite cool with a bit of a wind blowing.
Back to our room for a rest. J slowly starting to come right. Back to our “local” for another coffee/brandy/cake and blog time. It is taking a lot of time to keep up the blog but it takes the place of writing up a hard-copy diary, as we have always done in the past. Hope it is not too tedious for people reading this, and yes, we do know it waxes lyrical about food all the time. All our diaries do J.

A few more tourists are around today but we are consistently being told that the tourist season will start in a few weeks’ time (with Easter) and pick up quickly in June. We are paying NZ$50 for our room (usually ensuite or bath right outside, and with small kitchen), but this goes up to $200 in peak season. Prices generally are pretty good. For example, our afternoon tea of 2 drinks and 2 slices of cake cost NZ$8.
Korcula is a stunning place. Clearly when it is buzzing with tourists and all the cafes are busy, it would feel quite different to its current laid-back atmosphere. We are looking forward to seeing Dubrovnik. Made our own meal for dinner and watched a bit of sport on TV. Early to bed ready for an early start in the morning.
