Thursday 14th - Stari Grad

Harbour of Stari Grad
Slept in for a bit, made ourselves breakfast in bed (muesli, milk and yoghurt as usual) and headed out for a coffee and a walk. It isn’t a big town, and it most clearly shows we are pre-season as so little is open. The harbour is full of dozens of little fishing boats, and it all very picturesque. Cold today, so we have most of our layers on, but it is clear and sunny like a Nelson autumn day.
Writing up the blog in main square, Stari Grad

We’ve noticed that the tall wide men of Split don’t make it this far south – they are a different breed here. Some notes on prices – espresso 6KN, cappuccino 10KN, Nescaffe 15KN (I wouldn’t drink it if they paid me that), café beer 12KN (5-6KN in shops), local spirits 8-10KN (divide all by 4 for NZD). Most important to note that the local spirits, which I can vouch for as good, are cheaper than a cappuccino. We guess that’s because many people make their own. The beers are pretty average. Commercial lagers with little flavour, and we are yet to find one we really like. We’ll just have to keep trying! Buses and local ferries are cheap – though you pay extra for bags on buses (e.g. yesterday we paid 9KN for 20km on the bus and another 4KN for the bags). Getting a bit sick of the smoking. Even though inside is meant to be smokefree, it isn’t always, and very often there is so much smoke outside you can’t get away from it either.
