Today was a day off. We had been virtually on-the-go for the last 4 or 5 days, arriving late everywhere and having little time to just relax. The fairly constant rain is also a drag. We had found the scenery of Switzerland unfailingly beautiful, but even more so than Germany, the towns are excessively neat and tidy, and seemed to us to lack a comfortable easy-going feel.
We were pleased to arrive in Freiburg, but were all looking forward to getting back to France. Today was a day for trying a major catch-up on urgent computer work, the blog, naming and sorting photos and so on. AJ is frantically trying to organise his German visa so he can do his internship in Munich AJ and also needs to find a flat there. He is also weighing up the options of buying a second hand bike, kitting it with a few things, and heading off on a cycle tour through France when we part ways at the end of next week. He is also investigating options for WWOOFing in France or Spain, and Erika in Nufenen said they get workers in to help cut the hay in July August. The latter would be great in that AJ would get extremely fit, brown, get home-cooked Swiss meals and learn German or at least Swiss-German. He wants to come to pick it up as soon as he can so he can benefit from it in Munich, though everyone in his office apparently speaks English. He and I went on runs, and we discovered a bakery in the local shops around the corner where prices are far more acceptable after the rigours of Switzerland.
Unfortunately, having held out until Freiburg as our last chance to catch some of the major tennis championships, we find that we can’t get the sports channels on this TV either, as with every other so far. Missed the French Open while we were in Lucca, and now Wimbledon has started. We may perhaps catch the finals when we are in Prague.
